Roller bearings are an important component of the rolling mill, primarily used for the roll neck of the rolling mill to bear huge loads. The quality of installation and maintenance of four-row cylindrical roller bearings has a significant impact on the service life of the bearings. This article introduces how to install and maintain four-row cylindrical roller bearings for rolling mills.
The installation site should be a clean and dry working environment. Before installation, each part, including the roll neck and bearing box, must be inspected. The inspection involves checking the surface, specifications, status, precision, and tolerances of the parts. Areas combined with the bearing surface, including roll neck, various holes, edges, and burrs, need proper cleaning.
The roller ring and inner ring are generally assembled and tested by the roller processing factory. Two inner rings are installed in each four-row cylindrical roller bearing. The inner ring and roll neck are combined through interference fitting. Before assembly testing, the inner ring needs to be heated to the required size before installing it onto the roll neck. Afterward, the outer diameter of the inner ring is ground and polished.
During the installation of the outer ring and rolling elements, first, check the roundness of the bearing housing using an inside micrometer at four positions to ensure the roundness meets the drawing requirements. Install the frame seal, water seal, and O-ring on the end cap near the roll body, and then attach the end cap to the bearing housing. Then, sequentially install the end ring, outer ring and its accessories, retaining ring, etc., lifting the outer ring and its accessories, and vertically placing them into the bearing box.
The service life of four-row cylindrical roller bearings greatly depends on their maintenance. Bearings must be regularly removed from the roll for inspection to detect problems in the load-bearing area early and prevent further expansion, thereby maximally ensuring the longest operational time of the bearings.
Regularly clean and inspect the components of four-row cylindrical roller bearings, observing the damage condition of the raceway surface and rolling element surface. If damage exceeds the specified standard, timely replacement is necessary. During usage, original bearing components must be used, and other parts must be measured again before they can be selectively used.
Regularly inspect and adjust the side slide plates of the supporting roller bearing housing to ensure the alignment of the roller axes. Additionally, the drive system's connecting shaft must be replaced regularly. Otherwise, excessive clearance may lead to additional axial force, eventually causing bearing damage.
